Day seven - Shap to Orton

With a short day (just 8 miles) ahead we had a late start and set off just after 9.30am after a great breakfast. The sun is out and we are in for a very hot day, the saving grace is we are now on the limestaone plateau and that means soft velvet turf ahead.

Our first target is the footbridge over the M6 which marks the 1/3rd point as the crow flies of the coast to coast walk

As we cross the M6 we meet up with our 'new best friends' the Aussies and Sam is soon off with them leaving mum and dad behind!

The  walk is pretty easy going and gentle slopes lead us past the ugly limestone quarry at Hardendale Head and on past Oddendale. The fields are lush and full of grazing animals who take very little notice of people walking past.

As we are walking past Oddendale we are treated to a fly past by 3 RAF aircraft who circle above us and roar off into the distance en route to Scotland.

The surrounding area is littered with historical monuments covering prehistoric, roman and Victorian era's.

We are now a mere 3 miles from Orton and a boring trek along the road takes us within 1 mile of our destination.

We leave the road at a signpost and conclude the day through the fields and farms of Orton and arrive at our B+B just before 2pm for a quiet afternoon and a catch up on the blogging!

70 miles completed, tomorrow we head for Kirkby Stephen
