Day 2 - Cleator to Ennerdale YHA

Another early start to the day, we were the only ones staying at our hotel last night so a complete waste of time telling Sam to be quiet!

The challenge today is Dent (around 1000 feet above seal level). You can just see the peak in the distance

The route is through a forest and up a steep slope and certainly gets you warmed up

The top was duly reached and sam was delighted to find a 'St George's Flag' marking the spot.

1000 feet from sea level

The views back to St Bees was worth the walk!

Once recovered we set of down towards Raven Crag and along the valley of Nannycatch Beck on the way to Ennerdale Village for lunch at the Shepherd's Inn. 5 Miles down, 4 to go till Ennerdale YHA

The walk from Ennerdale Village to the start of Ennerdale Water is along the road and a little boring but once you get to the water everything changes, its a wonderful view with Red Pike and High Stile in the distance

To get to the YHA we chose the south shore which is the more difficult route and involves scrambling round and over Anglers Crag, given Louise's fear of heights this was more tricky than it needed to be but we all got around it safely and after a long walk reached the end of the reservoir and made our way to Ennerdale YHA. The Youth Hostel is a great place to stay and the food was pretty good and excellent value for money.

Tomorrow we head for Borrowdale and tackle Loft Beck, and climb to 2000 feet
